Counters for The Battles of Bull Run

Normal (single-sided) counters

This is one sheet of 240 half-inch counters, with minimal redesign:

Both halves of the sheet (Union on the left, and Confederate on the right) are divided horizontally in the middle.  Counters above the division are the actual units that start the game, and those below are for replacing the original ones as they take hits.

Most properly, these should be semi-two-sided counters, with blue backs for the Union counters, and gray for the Confederates.  Like the other counters on this site, the printed sheet should be glued to a sheet of cardboard.  Then cut it into two halves, and glue a half-sheet of colored paper or cardstock to the back of each half.  Finally, cut the counters apart with a paper-cutter or X-acto knife.

Step-reduction counters

These can be set up as single-sided counters with one or two counters per unit (or three, for a couple of the counters), if you want to be able to play with the hidden-movement rules.  In this case, there are 240 single-sided counters on the sheet (most of them blanks).

They can also be set up a double-sided counters, with just one counter per unit (or two, for a couple of them).  In this case, there are 120 double-sided counters on the sheet.  Each block of twenty on the page is actually ten counters:  cut the two rows of images apart, and glue them to opposite sides of a piece of cardboard.  Those with combat strengths of four or less are essentially one-sided.  There are two 9–8 Confederate infantry that have two counters, one single-sided and one double-sided.  They start out with the single-sided counter with the strength of 9, and after taking one hit, are replaced by their two-sided counterparts.
